What is the SHOP Marketplace for Small Businesses?

Under the ACA, states may create small business health options programs (SHOP) exchanges, where small employers who want to offer coverage to their employees can shop for plans. In Nebraska, this is the SHOP Marketplace for Small Businesses offered by the federal government. For 2014, under the federal SHOP, employers will select the plans that will be available to their employees.

After 2014, employees should have a choice of health plans available from insurers participating in the SHOP. When employee choice is available, employers will get a single aggregated bill for all their employees regardless of how many different insurers' plans are chosen by employees.
